Buy Green Power

Did you know you can choose what kind of electricity you buy from your electric company? Buying clean and renewable or "green" energy is the single most powerful action a family or business can take to fight pollution and climate disruption. Find out how!

CLEAN is a collaborative movement of organizations and individuals organizing around a specific "CALL TO ACTION."

The "call" is to implement new energy policies based on decentralized control of energy, whereby energy is generated by regionally appropriate, reliable, and renewable resources, such as wind, solar, and geothermal.

Clean Power Now Partners with Massachusetts Power Shift to organize Climate Summer to Raise Public Awareness about the Severity of the Climate Crisis and Petition Residents to Urge Action

June 17, 2009, Hyannis, MA – Clean Power Now partners with Massachusetts Power Shift to organize the Climate Summer program to raise public awareness about the severity of the climate crisis and petition residents to urge action. The goal is to reach at least 7,000 residents on Cape Cod and the Islands.

The heart of this Climate Summer program is a door-to-door canvass. During the next four weeks, a small team of climate change activists and college students will bike around Falmouth, Barnstable, Yarmouth and Edgartown on Martha’s Vineyard.

The student volunteers engage residents in personal action by distributing information about renewable energy, energy efficiency and energy audits. They raise the profile of local efforts to combat climate change and ask residents to sign a petition joining Al Gore and the Massachusetts legislature demanding Congress to re-power America with 100% clean electricity in the next decade.

Jay O’Hara of Bourne, Mass Climate Summer Coordinator, says: “We are excited to be right here on Cape Cod and Martha's Vineyard, on the forefront of the Clean Energy Revolution. Residents we talk to realize that being informed and taking action is the only way to solve the catastrophic impact from climate change”.

Barbara Hill of Centerville, Clean Power Now Executive Director adds: ”I am thrilled to be partnering with MA Power Shift in the Climate Summer program as it will bring more attention to the work of Clean Power Now and the Cape Wind project that when built will supply on average 75% of the Cape and islands electricity needs. The residents on Cape Cod and the islands have the opportunity to set the example of energy independence and sustainability for the rest of America.”

The seven student/volunteers biking on Cape Cod and Martha's Vineyard will stay in housing donated by the faith based community and members of Clean Power Now.
