Buy Green Energy

Buy Green Power

Did you know you can choose what kind of electricity you buy from your electric company? Buying clean and renewable or "green" energy is the single most powerful action a family or business can take to fight pollution and climate disruption. Find out how!

CLEAN is a collaborative movement of organizations and individuals organizing around a specific "CALL TO ACTION."

The "call" is to implement new energy policies based on decentralized control of energy, whereby energy is generated by regionally appropriate, reliable, and renewable resources, such as wind, solar, and geothermal.

As part of Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar’s commitment to issue a decision on Cape Wind, the Minerals Management Service (MMS) is accepting public comments on the historic preservation aspects of the project (also known as the Section 106 process).

Now, more than ever, it is crucial that Secretary Salazar hears from you.

Secretary Salazar needs to hear from the thousands of citizens that want to see the Cape Wind project built on Horseshoe Shoals in Nantucket Sound.

Secretary Salazar announced this public comment period on January 13 in response to the decision by the National Park Service to consider Nantucket Sound for listing in the National Registry of Historic Places. The Secretary hosted meetings in Washington DC with representatives from all of the principal parties involved in the Section 106 process, including Clean Power Now’s Executive Director Barbara Hill. The Secretary stated that, “After several years of review, it is now time to move the Cape Wind proposal to a final decision point” noting that "If an agreement among the parties can't be reached, I will be prepared to take the steps necessary to bring the permit process to conclusion."

The revised version of the Section 106 Finding of Adverse Effect (Revised) document is now available for public review and comment in the Federal Register

The deadline for public comment is February 12, 2010.

Comments can be mailed or hand carried to: The Minerals Management Service Attention: James F. Bennett 381 Elden Street Mail Stop 4042 Herndon, Virginia 20170-4817

IMPORTANT NOTE: Envelopes or packages should be marked “Cape Wind Energy Project, Findings Document.”

Comments can also be submitted electronically

Please also send a copy of your comments to Clean Power Now by emailing sarahc@cleanpowernow.org or mailing them to PO Box 2717 Hyannis MA 02601. You can also email sarahc@cleanpowernow.org with your comments and she will forward them for you.

Key Talking Points:

  • Thank Secretary Salazar for his involvement and his promise that "The public, the parties, and the permit applicants deserve certainty and resolution."
  • Remind the Secretary that he stated: “that decision-making has got to be made with the best of science and the best of the facts on the table.” After 9 years of regulatory review and with all of the evidence clearly showing that the Cape Wind project offers significant public interest benefits, it is time for this project to move forward on Horseshoe Shoals in Nantucket Sound.
  • Emphasize: what is at stake for the clean energy/offshore wind energy future of the country. That this is a national decision and should be made with the interests of the country, the new economy and clean energy jobs.
  • Tell the Secretary that Cape Wind has paved the road for the federal regulatory framework for future offshore wind energy projects and that industry and investors are watching this project closely. America needs to create green jobs and build a clean energy economy and without Cape Wind the Obama Administration will not see an offshore wind farm built during their term in office.

Please forward this Action Alert to at least 3 friends and family members and encourage them to take action too! After years of fighting for America’s first offshore wind farm right in our backyards, the need for your voice and your support has never been stronger!

Thank you for taking action for our energy future. As always keep checking www.cleanpowernow.org for News, Updates and Action Alerts.
